1. Do not try to stay calm. Do not control your emotions. Instead, let your emotions move you. Your emotional energy naturally gives you the extra voltage needed to solve problems. Let yourself get excited. Excitement gives you the energy to overcome the obstacles in front of you.
2. Do not confuse stress with anxiety. Take note of your energy and body language. Anxiety is unhealthy and feels like static in your nervous system. Stress is the mountain you need to climb. Stress can make you anxious and this increased anxiety will impede your performance.
3. Do not confuse stress with fear. Real fear is essential for survival. Real fear helps you deal with stress effectively. By feeling your fear, you know what to do in order to be successful in each new, stressful situation.
4. Do feel the stress. Yikes, yes, feel the stress. “Oh my, there is a mountain to climb. How do I get to the top?” Acknowledge the stressful situation and feel what is happening in your body and heart. Stay with yourself through the growth process.
